Farm Africa is a British NGO which implemented the Kenya Market-led Aquaculture Programme aimed at developing the Kenyan aquaculture sector. The project was financed by the Netherlands Embassy in Kenya.
Farm Africa engaged Larive to conduct market research on the aquaculture sector in Kenya. The scope of the study included:
- Quantitative analysis of the current market for fish in Kenya, and future growth forecasts.
- Quantitative and qualitative analysis of specific regions within Kenya (Oyugis, Busia, Nairobi) including two village-based markets near Nairobi & Kisumu.
- Value chain analysis (SWOT) of fish trade in Kenya.
- Recommendations for medium-scale farmers to commercialise their operations through increased market engagement.
