Netherlands poultry experts visit Myanmar

From 22– 25 April 2018 a delegation of 11 representatives from the Netherlands poultry sector visited Myanmar. The program included reference visits to Myanmar companies active in the various steps of the poultry sector value chain.

The program has been organized as part of the ‘Netherlands-Myanmar Poultry Cooperation’, a public-private partnership of 9 companies and knowledge institutes from the Netherlands active in the poultry value chain and the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Larive and its Myanmar based affiliate Thura Swiss coordinate the partnership. The goals are to strengthen the development of the poultry sector in Myanmar, while supporting Dutch companies with market entry and growth in Myanmar and demonstrate their best practices.

Visits during the mission to Myanmar included:

  • Kaung Htet feed mill
  • Trouw Nutrition premix plant
  • Wai Yang Aung slaughterhouse
  • KFC Myanmar
  • Metro Wholesale & Food Myanmar
  • Eastern Breeders
  • CJ Myanmar
  • SAPA demonstration broiler farm
  • Commercial layer farms in Yangon and Mandalay region

The program included a trade dinner at Atlas Rooftop in Yangon, in attendance Wouter Jurgens, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Frederik Heijink, Agricultural Counsellor and selected guests from the Myanmar poultry sector.

Myanmar’s poultry sector offers substantial opportunities for Dutch suppliers of goods and technologies. Notably, in the field of slaughtering, (further) processing and cold chain and logistics, significant investments can be expected in the years ahead. By demonstrating best practices, the Netherlands contributes to improving food safety and increase consumer awareness about the advantages of hygienically slaughtered, stored and transported poultry meat.
